I posted about a wedding nightmare. 5 months! Luckily, in the intervening months I had very few wedding nightmares, a wonderful civil ceremony and a fantastic weekend with family & friends in which Ian and I tied the knot. Then we headed to France for 10 days to enjoy the sun, culture and delicious food. Now Ian & I are reading HP7 (aloud, to each other, no cheating by reading ahead) and I’m swamped with work. What else is new? Oh, and we saw The Police in a surprise birthday gift from Ian.

the nightmares have begun

It’s official. I had my first “wedding” nightmare two nights ago. And what was it about? A wedding dress. Or rather, a lack thereof. I have been putting off finding time to actually go try some dresses on for a variety of reasons

a) I hate shopping

b) I don’t want something traditional and therefore don’t know where to start looking

c) I can’t make it during the week and don’t have the desire to waste my 1 day off doing this

d) I hate shopping

So. I had this dream where it was the day before the wedding, and I was running around trying to find something appropriate in this huge shopping mall, to no avail. Each store failed to have what I was looking for. It was actually quite funny, come to think of it.

But, I digress. I guess that I should actually add “wedding dress” to my list of tasks, if only so that I can feel good about crossing it off.

Sigh.

I’m depressed looking @ the list of books I have to read and how little progress I’ve made in recent weeks. I’d love to claim that I’ve read a bunch more and just haven’t updated, but that’s not the case. Although, I have read about 6 New Yorkers in the last week. That’s gotta count for something, right?

If you’re interested…Storm Ultimate has been somewhat updated for the new season.

snow, snow, snow, snow

Jay got 60 inches last week. My bro, my dad & I went boarding on Sat. Although the lines were about 35 minutes long, the powder was gorgeous. And it wasn’t cold, so waiting in line wasn’t too painful.

For the first 5 minutes, I couldn’t remember how to snowboard. Granted, it was the first time this year, and I’ve only done it a total of maybe 5 or 6 times. Nonetheless, it was a bizarre feeling to have no memory of what to do with my body to make the board go downhill without falling. Luckily, my bro was on hand with some tips, and about 1/2 the way down the first run, I started remembering.

So, we promptly moved over to the diamond runs. After all, just because I hadn’t done a black run before, didn’t mean this shouldn’t be the time to try it. We only managed to get in about 5 runs (since we showed up at noon, and the lines were massive). But, it was worth it. The powder was nice and deep pretty much everywhere, so falling didn’t hurt.

Since there was probably 3-4 feet of snow at our country place, the cows decided they could just hop the fence. So hop it they did. They escaped several times (apparently not at all fearful of the electric fencing). Watching them take off down the road is quite a hilarious vision. Luckily, they returned after some coaxing.

ice ice baby

So, it has finally gotten cold enough in Mtl for there to be ice, and with ice, brings shinny! I admit that this was not one of the activities in which I participated as a kid. Rather, I’d be practicing jumps or spins while my brother & dad would be playing hockey. But, since I “retired” my figure skates about 5 years ago, and because fiance fish loves hockey so much, I now have my very own pair of hockey skates, and a stick that fits me. I am really starting to like it. I guess it helps to have a rink right across the street.

I haven’t read anything of late, as I have been sick and work has been somewhat overwhelming. I don’t really see a light at the end of the tunnel (nice cliche, eh?) until at least May, so it’s going to be a long winter. Plus, wedding plans have been shaping up (ok, so we have taken care of the invites…) but plenty more needs to be handled! Weekends have become “wedding tasks” days. Fun stuff.

fighting fair?

Interesting article in the NYTimes Magazine about Dick Pound, head of WADA. Doping is a crazy phenomenon, and this article is quite enlightening. I just can’t imagine sacrificing my health & honour so that I can have a better chance of beating my opponents. But then again, I’ve never trained for something as elite as say, the tour de france, or the Olympics. Who knows what pressures these athletes feel.

At the Ultimate World Championships in Finland, the tournament (or maybe WFDF) claimed that there would be random testing for drugs (ie: marijuana). I don’t think anyone from our team got selected for a test, or maybe they decided not to do it at the last minute, but it could have turned into a fiasco. Even playing for Team Canada, many people drank and smoked and things during the tournament. I guess it shows how far away we are from “elite” sports status.

Finished A Spot of Bother by the same author of A curious incident of the dog in the night time. It was entertaining, if somewhat ridiculous. Character development could have been better, but overall it was a nice light and amusing read.

more than meets the eye

Ah, cartoons will never be the same, especially when Steven Spielberg is the executive producer for the Transformers movie. Beware the evil forces of the Decepticons. And check out the trailer too.

May your new year sparkle like fireworks at the seaport!

only 10 percent

Woohoo, a whole website with products designed just for me! Maybe Ian & I should register here for our wedding gift registry (only he’s not left-handed….)

I am particularly interested in the left-handed pens. Are they smudge-proof?

‘07 approaches

If the people who are working on the bond franchise were smart, maybe they’d have waited and release Casino Royale in ‘07, some witty play on the 007 moniker. Then again, maybe that’s just too obvious.

It’s the day after Christmas and all through the house….relaxation in terms of watching ALIAS season 1 and reading books (just finished The Emperor’s Children) is transpiring. Ahhh. This is the life.

May 2007 be filled with light and laughter for all!
